Week 1
This week I learned how to make a weebly site and edit my site however I want, including making tabs on the site, and having a green-themed and topping it off with a beautiful mountain scene. I'm also using photoshop for the first time in a long time and I'm hoping to get better at using it to create designs, themes, backgrounds, posters, and ads.
Week 2
This week I've learned a lot about photoshop, and made a pig image with text. With photoshop I learned how to use layers, make paint, change colors, import images, and crop images. I also started a seahawks poster, and with what I've learned in photoshop, I think its turning out well :)
Week 3
This week I made 3 skateboards on photoshop. I learned how to upload different types of brushes and make graffiti. I found out how to mess with opacity of a color to make a cool design. I also learned how to make different layers and flip the layer as well as edit brush sizes. I also learned how to rotate text to show creativity.
Week 4
This week I learned how to use adobe illustrator. I made pac man and a snow man. I learned the different tools, my favorite being the "cookie cutter tool" where you can cut out chunks from shapes to form new shapes. I also learned the difference between photoshop and illustrator. Photoshop uses points, or pixels. Illustrator uses rays, lines, and segments, which is useful if you want to put an image in different sizes because lines don't get blurry when close up, but pixels do.
Week 5
This week I learned more about adobe illustrator. I learned how to make circles for the angry bird, and how to use grids and hierarchy together. I also learned the color wheel, helping me know what colors (scientifically) go together, which can help me think of color schemes for a design.
Week 6
This week I learned how to make an angry bird. This gave me more experience with curving lines. I also learned how to make an album cover and shade it using the threshold command. And I never knew what it meant to have a light box on your designs, but now I know it makes the image appear larger when you click on it.
Week 7
This week I learned how to use the threshold command in photoshop. This allowed me to darken a picture to create a band cover album. I then put it into illustrator where I made the tie of Billie Joe Armstrong red and everything else except the text black or white. I made the band cover asymmetrically balanced between the text and the photo, making it look really nice.
Week 8
This week I worked on my road sign assignment practically all week. Its helped me get really creative and skilled with the pen tool. I also found out how important the design process is, and how just researching the topic for 2-5 minutes gives you a lot of knowledge and a foundation to design on.
Week 9
This week I made a haunted house poster. Admittedly it has been the toughest assignment yet, as it was really tough finding ideas and making something spooky, yet catchy to the eye. I made used an image of a witch and made fog with the paintbrush tool and making the opacity about 30%. It definitely didn't turn out great, but I made 2 posters and used the design process to help me.
Week 10
This week I worked on my Julian Opie assignment. It helped me practice the design process because I had to research to see what Julian Opie's style is. I also learned how to make a custom brush, which I used for the hair of my Julian Opie assignment. I also did the Artists Palette exercise, so I learned about many different painters and what type artist they are.
Week 11
This week I learned a little bit about InDesign. I learned how to create a document, and a multiple page document so it looks like a magazine. I also learned how to connect paragraphs using the text thread, which allows paragraphs of text to connect. Then I put it all together and made a 6 page magazine about frogs.
Week 12
This week I started to work on my 10 page magazine. One thing I learned was how to make a cover of a magazine, and erasing the text so it looks like the person on the title of the magazine is covering the text. I also learned how to use paragraph and character styles in my magazine, that way I can use the same text for headings and body text.
Week 13
This week I made ads for my 10 page magazine. To do this I had to use all three programs we've used together. I'd use Photoshop to edit photos for the ad, and touch things up and save it in Illustrator, that way in Indesign the ad doesn't look all pixilated. The main thing I learned that helped me was using the quick selection and lasso tools in photoshop to cut out baseball players for ads.
Week 14
This week I made finishing touches to my 10 page magazine. I learned how to make master page elements, such as page numbers. The toughest thing to learn was how to make page two of the magazine be page 1, and page three be page four, and so on. I also learned how to upload the magazine to my weebly site.
Week 15
This week I made two billboard ads, and I learned how to distort images to fit the angle the billboard was at, as well as make holes in the billboard. I also re-learned how to upload different styles of text, in order to make an original 1950's ad.
Week 16
This week I learned how to make a cereal box. Using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, I was able to make a nice cover of the box, and then distort it to fit the box. I also learned how utilize creativity to think of a brand name, as well as drawing on the "two circles" sheet.
